useletter-header

Welcome to this week's useletter

focussing on your future not my past, a newsletter that's useful.
I wrote a whole other intro to this fortnight’s useletter. It was long and boring.
Sometimes you just gotta jump in.

In building a business supporting architects the biggest challenge I’ve faced is the constant denial of need. Architects are doin' it for themselves (apologies to Aretha and the Eurythmics). Architects don’t need no help. Yet the other night at a business of small practice talk, a constant thread throughout was the plea to small practices,
“Don’t try to do it all yourselves.”
Find someone (or someones) to help you with the work you’re not good at!
Yep! That’s what I’ve been saying.
All bias aside,
Architects get help!

Look, I know hard it is. I’m totally guilty of the same thinking 🤦. And there’s no time like the present to be more mindful about getting help.
Our work will be better for it.

It’s all about Who Not How.

I got you

Who?

If you didn’t click the Who Not How link above, all you need to know is, it’s a book.
An insightful and super helpful one.

Much of what you need to know is already in the title. It probably didn’t need to be a book, an article would just about cover it. In fact most of what you need to know can be boiled down to 3 steps.

I thought I might try an AI summary but I then found a summary online.
https://fourminutebooks.com/who-not-how-summary/
It’s better than I could write.

3 steps to who not how

  1. Ask yourself “who can help me accomplish this?” instead of “how am I going to get this done?”
  2. Getting the right Whos in your life will free up your time.
  3. You will make more money when you find Whos to complete your Hows.
Nailed it! Any questions?

This fortnight’s experiment is to identify something you’re doing yourself and you might be better off finding a ‘Who’ for. Then find them and engage them.

And if you don’t think that’s possible…
“You can if…”
Try it.

You got this
