useletter-header

Hey reader

this shit is hard!
and by "this shit" I mean unmeasured
and the work we all do. All the things we deal with.
Our practice. People. Inertia. Distraction. Traction. Etc. The lot!

I am struggling.
I know many of us are struggling.

When I started unmeasured I knew it would be hard. I knew it would take experimenting with different offers, ideas and words. I knew I was pitching to a difficult market. I knew there'd be times like this, when I'm seriously questioning if it's ever going to work. And do I walk away? For reals. Yep, this shit is hard.

I'm not walking away (just yet), but I am going to try a few more different things which means you might notice changes to the useletter. In previous missives I've mentioned we don't need to do our work alone. I'm changing things up based on advice. I can't emphasise enough, you do not need to do your work alone. Get help. Friends, colleagues, mentors, professionals, etc. Whoever is going to give you the support, advice or help you need.

So what's happening? You'll see me less on Twitter (albeit I've been largely avoiding it of late) and more on LinkedIn and Instagram (I just joined). My blog posts will likely happen fortnightly. They'll be an interconnectedness of things. Little vids, posts, additional nuggets of wisdom here there and everywhere. And of course always something specially for you here. The reason? I'm still trying to work out what works, where I'm needed and what resonates. Feedback is always very welcome.

For now, I'm all about trying things and change.

I got you
Michael

trying for change

Here's a flow chart, of sorts.
(You'll just have to imagine the arrows and bubbles.)

"Are you happy with how _____ is/are?" - yes or no?
"Is _____ working?" - yes or no?
If 'yes' then END.
If 'no' then, "What have you tried?"
If nothing then TRY SOMETHING.
"Did that work?" - yes or no?
Keep going until 'yes' then END
[Realistically you should never end. Continue to try things to get or do better.]

Of course "trying things" is no guarantee of success. What is guaranteed is that unless we do try something different, things won't change. It's obvious, but I find it necessary to remind myself often. It's fear. Fear is powerful and usually the reason why we fail to experiment and embrace change. Fear stokes the stories we tell ourselves. Convincing us to not try something new and telling us why it won't work or why it's worth trying. Fear persuades us that things might change without having to do that hard thing we need to do, and instead keep going as we are. Fear holds us back.

So my challenge this week, for us all, is if somerthing isn't work for you, to try to do something different. What have we got to lose by trying?

Keep going.

You and I got this.

“Changes and progress very rarely are gifts from above. They come out of struggles from below.”
