Hi! I'm Michael.
Welcome to this week's useletter.
The newsletter that's useful. Focussed on your future not my past.
This one has me down a rabbit hole.
I’ve been reflecting on the feedback I received for my original Architecture Practice Readiness Assessment app, and linked to last useletter.
and special thanks to all those that gave it a try.
The tool was, to be fair, a less than stellar experience. Not terrible, but far from good. It had limitations I couldn’t overcome. So I decided another approach might be preferable.
And over the last week I’ve been giving vibe coding a crack, and used it to build a new Assessment tool.
Well... the new architecture practice readiness assessment is much much better.
As I was contemplating that experience… I started questioning why limit the tool to future readiness. Why not open the possibility up to a broader approach to practice.
Could I build a tool to coach architects effectively? So I ventured into the rabbit hole.
And pulled a rabbit out of my hat, in a mixed(omatosis) metaphor.
Impressed with what my ArchCoach could do, I built a custom coach for myself.
Now I’m able to check in with my coach every morning before I start my work! It brings some clarity at the start of my day. Helping me to focus on the important work and track my progress.
I’m putting myself out of a job!
Instead of writing about something useful, I’m instead sharing my two new Apps with you. They’re still in Beta testing, but you should still find them useful.
PS: I'm always keen to hear what your finding a challenge right now. Please feel free to reach out and let me know how I might support you.
First... a request
When I say I’m “putting myself out of a job”, I’m not entirely joking.
Whilst at present these tools aren’t as good as a human coach, they’re pretty good. The more coachable someone is, the more powerful they’ll likely find them at this stage. You'll need to lean into answering the questions and trust they'll get you somewhere helpful - you invariably will.
My request is, if you try them out, please send through feedback. Let me know what's good or bad about them, and if you find any bugs. I want to make them as good as possible. If they prove to be useful, I’ll probably be charging for them. And if you provide feedback, I will make them available free for you to use forever.
Please don’t share the beta version. If and when they’re ready to share to a wider audience I will let you know. I’ll be asking you to shout it from the rooftops.

It might be time for the architecture profession’s leaders to starting learning form the ground up.

There’s two main ways to stand out. Be different. or Be better. Copying is the route to unexceptional.

Or…
do architects do too many of the wrong things?
