Newsletter-Header-B

Hi reader,

This week I've been thinking about enrolment. Specifically in regard to how we enrol people in the work we do, the ideas we have, or the change we want to make.

reader, have you ever struggled with enrolling someone in something you're doing? That might be getting a new client on board, an existing client to sign off on a design or perhaps an errant uncle who believes that climate change is a myth. It's tricky and I've been thinking about this both in relation to the work I do at unmeasured as well the work that the architecture profession does and how we might better enrol the public in what we do.

Change cannot begin with facts, facts don't negate doubt. Persisting with a stream of facts is at the cost of truly seeing someone, earning their trust, and engaging them in a conversation to understand what they might need or want. Instead begin with enrolment, it can be earned through engagement and trust. With enrolment we begin on a path to change allowing us to follow with a process and necessary facts.

Enrolment is a key ingredient missing from engagement today and I'm committed to building more in the conversations I have and the work I do. I'd love for you to join me in this commitment.

I got you
Michael

Coming Up at Unmeasured

I'm in amongst the weeds this month, building workshops: Reframing the Imposter, Growth Mindset and as you may have also guessed I'm also considering one on Enrolment. In all this consideration of practice, I'm also writing to share my thoughts and get them clearer in my own mind. A long Blog post I recently rewrote on Reframing of Architectural Practice is a good summation of this thinking I've been doing. Unmeasured is very much about seeing practice anew and building the skills necessary to build better practice.
Meanwhile... I'm also busy coaching over in the altMBA which is both rewarding and helps me to keep my coaching knives sharp!

As previously flagged, anyone interested in helping out making it better and joining me for the test workshops, please get in contact and I will send you an invite. There is no charge for these. Please come and join us in all learning together.

An Idea

If you reach out to one person per weekday over the year, that's 260 people you will reach. You could generously offer them something they may enjoy, even if it's only an idea or link to an article or even invite them to coffee. You could simply let them know how much you appreciate them.

A Question

What good idea are you holding back from the world right now?

A Quote

“Change is an institution that we all have to get enrolled into if we are really willing to make a difference! Those who are illiterates to change agree that whatever will be will be! That does not sound well!” - Israelmore Ayivor
