Hi reader,
Over the last couple of weeks I've been thinking about my assumptions. Assumptions about my work, how to do it, and the outcomes I'm wanting. Assumptions are prohibitive. By dismissing assumptions it's possible to see more, creating new possibilities.
There's also an interesting dynamic between assumptions and outcomes. In order to let go of our assumptions it's necessary to let go of the outcome. It's basic scientific methodology. Release all assumptions, design an experiment to test a hypothesis (perhaps in relation to an assumption you're challenging) and be open to all possible outcomes. In a true experiment the outcome is not assured.
Your process is usually more important than the outcome, as outcomes aren't guaranteed.
If you were to develop a better process reader, what assumptions and outcomes would you commit to letting go of this week?

Coming Up at Unmeasured
All these questions around assumption and outcomes led here...
Now, in many respects, I don't know what is coming up at unmeasured except for a series of small experiments as I test my assumptions and dismiss the outcomes I sought. So what's coming up? Let me get back to you, I'm following my curiosity...
I'm still curious about these questions:
- Where is the tension for you in architectural practice? What are the key challenges you face or personal changes you would like to make?
- What support would be most helpful to you in addressing these tensions? Workshops, Coaching, a Community to work with, or something else?
If you have a moment to let me know your answers to these questions, I'd be grateful for your input and insight. Thank you.

Final call: If you're also interested in helping out and joining me for some test workshops, please get in contact. There is no charge for these. Please come and join us in all learning together. The first will be 2pm Friday 19 March - Reframing the Imposter.

A Question
What would your future self say to you?
(Note, your future self is unlikely to be attached to the things you are now.)

A Quote
"A Worthy Rival can push us in a way that few others can — not even our coaches, mentors, or advisors. Traditional competition forces us to take on an attitude of winning; a Worthy Rival inspires us to take on an attitude of improvement. The former focuses our attention on the outcome; the latter focuses our attention on process."

It might be time for the architecture profession’s leaders to starting learning form the ground up.

There’s two main ways to stand out. Be different. or Be better. Copying is the route to unexceptional.

do architects do too many of the wrong things?
